Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Sultan of Brunei
For one of the world’s richest men it is a snip, but at £15,000 it must be the most expensive haircut ever.
That is the sum the Sultan of Brunei spent to have his hair trimmed earlier this month when he flew out his favourite barber, Ken Modestou, from London.
Modestou, who runs a barber’s at the Dorchester hotel in Mayfair, central London, was given a self-contained suite on a Singapore Airlines flight for the 7,000-mile trip to the sultanate.
The cabin, which costs just under £11,000, was deemed necessary because the 63-year-old sultan wanted to ensure his barber was isolated from possible swine flu among other passengers.
While Modestou’s clients at the Dorchester pay £30 for a haircut, the sultan, whose fortune is estimated at £12 billion, gives him several thousand dollars in cash each time, in addition to the flight and hotel accommodation for three to four nights.
George Kadi, who works with Modestou at the Dorchester, told a client yesterday: “Ken has been cutting the hair of the sultan for 16 years.
“He goes regularly, sometimes every three or four weeks. The sultan flies him first-class at a cost of about £9,000. Everything is paid for, hotel, luxury food. It’s a case of ‘just keep signing, that’s all’.”
Kadi said that after trimming the sultan’s hair, Modestou receives a “thick envelope” full of dollars.
In order to treat hair loss effectively we would recommend that you have a diagnosis made as soon as possible by one of our experienced Westminster Trichologists. Stress can be an aggravator in almost all cases of hair loss and an accurate diagnosis will always, at the very least, take some of the stress away from you.
Gary Heron says: “You’ll have access to the most effective treatments available through The Hair Centre and at a fraction of the cost of going to other Private Commercial Clinics and Centres.”
When it’s time to see the Trichologist: If you begin losing hair rapidly, and or are cosmetically concerned about baldness, consult your Trichologist about treatment options. You can receive a free hair loss consultation with a Westminster Trichologist at our Hair Centre.
The point is that you are not getting to the real problem and you should seek specific professional advice from a Westminster Trichologist.
