Hair loss can leave people feeling vulnerable. This can make them easy targets for salesmen who make false claims about expensive treatments.
It’s important to be wary of the many private clinics that advertise their celebrity-endorsed wonder cures on the back pages of newspapers.
“With hair loss, your Westminster Trichologist should be your first stop,” says Gary Heron, a consultant trichologist at the Westmisnter Practice of Trichology, at The Hair Centre in London, who also runs a private practice.
“Some private commercial clinics have very assertive salesmen who make prospective clients feel completely inadequate,” he says.
“You don’t need to go to a private commercial clinic. Don’t be put off from going to see a Trichologist just because you think your hair loss may be only cosmetic.”
The hair on our head is a defining characteristic of our identity, according to psychologists. It reflects the image we have of ourselves and how we want others to see us.
In today’s society, a full head of hair is a sign of good health and youthfulness. We often use it to attract the opposite sex.
So when we start to lose our hair, we lose a part of our identity. This can knock our self-confidence and sometimes lead to depression.
How badly the loss is felt depends on the individual. “The psychological impact of hair can be huge,” says Trichologist Gary Heron, at the Westmisnter Practice of Trichology.
“Hair is so significant because of what it is and where it is. Hair is part of us, much more intimate than things like clothes. When it goes, you lose a part of yourself.”
Depending on the type of hair loss (medically known as alopecia), your GP can refer you to a specialist, generally a trichologist, who will provide you with an accurate diagnosis.
Gary Heron says: “You’ll have access to the most effective treatments available through The Hair Centre and at a fraction of the cost of going to other Private Commercial Clinics and Centres.”
When it’s time to see the Trichologist: If you begin losing hair rapidly, and or are cosmetically concerned about baldness, consult your Trichologist about treatment options. You can receive a free hair loss consultation with a Westminster Trichologist at our Hair Centre.
The point is that you are not getting to the real problem and you should seek specific professional advice from a Westminster Trichologist.
