Khan, 35, the ex-wife of cricketer-turned politician Imran Khan, claimed her hair has not been the same since the incident.
She and her sons, Sulaiman and Qasim, her mother, Lady Annabel Goldsmith, and other members of her family, were on a flight from London Gatwick to Nairobi when a student attacked the pilot.
Paul Kefa Mukonyi was restrained after a two-minute struggle on a British Airways jumbo jet during which the airliner fell 10,000ft when the auto-pilot became disengaged and the jumbo was knocked off course.
Mukonyi was reportedly suffering from extreme paranoia and believed he was in danger.
Although the family escaped unhurt, socialite Khan says the emotional trauma resulted in the loss of two patches of hair on either side of her head.
“The hair grew back white in those patches. And I’ve had to dye it ever since,” she said.
Speaking to Vogue magazine, she described her hair as “a security blanket”, adding: “It has become something I can hide behind when I’m feeling vulnerable.”
Khan is also known for her high-profile relationship with actor Hugh Grant. The pair’s relationship ended in February 2007, although the pair have reportedly been seen dining with each other in the past few months.
